Spiritual Reflections
At Christmas time, the Christian world comes alive with
Christmas carols, tinsel and Christmas sales. People busily buy presents for
their friends and family, prepare food they see as a treat and that they rarely
eat throughout the year, as well as decorating their houses with fairy lights
and large, blow-up Santa Clauses. For Christians, the focus is on the birth of
Jesus and the hope that his coming brought. For many, whether they are
religious or not, there is a feeling of magic in the air, which brings people
together for festive celebrations and fun. While the term, “The Spirit of
Christmas” is used a lot by advertisers to encourage consumers to spend more
money, people do seem to feel a renewed
What does the “Spirit of Christmas” really mean, given that
advertisers brand it as the time to shower loved ones with gifts and spend time
with friends and family, who, in many cases, are people they would rather not
see at all? Many people live difficult lives and, for many, Christmas can be a
very lonely time. For them it is just another day, as it is, perhaps, for
anyone who doesn’t follow the Christian faith.
The message of Christmas hinges on the saviour of one man,
Jesus who, in turn, spread the message that the love of God is in all of us. If
that is so, then spreading love, joy and the spirit of Christmas should be
something we do all year round. Consequently then, showing love to ourselves is
just as important because, if we can’t give love and care to ourselves, how can
we be expected to give it to anyone else?
In light of the amount of violence shown by man against his
fellow man around the world, any act of kindness, no matter how small, has the
power to bring hope to those who have suffered loss and tragedy in unexpected
and unnecessary ways. In a seemingly uncaring world where the money is the only
commodity that allows the freedom to live without poverty or hardship,
charities are being called on more and more to provide the basic human
necessities, not only to victims of war or acts of terrorism, but to ordinary
people who can no longer afford the cost of living, let alone times like
Christmas.
For those who volunteer to feed the homeless and those down
on their luck on Christmas Day, the Spirit of Christmas means opening their
hearts to those less fortunate than themselves. For some, it is giving back by
donating money to charity, for others it is making the most of time with family
or friends that they love. Many would describe the concept of the Spirit of
Christmas with words such as ‘generosity’, ‘sharing’ and ‘giving’ which, one
could argue, is all underpinned with love and the crucial message that someone
cares.
So, who cares for you? If you are alone this Christmas, or if
you have a busy day/s planned feeding the hoards, make sure you get some time
for yourself, and don’t forget to tell yourself you are enough. Then, in the
spirit of hope at Christmas time, make a firm plan for what you want your life
to look like in 2026, and put it out to the Universe. After all, where there is
life there is hope, and where there is hope there is the opportunity for
change.

Why Do We Give Gifts at Christmas?
Nayaswami Ananta: The giving of gifts, as I always heard, was because The
Three Kings brought gifts [to the Christ child]. The Christ Consciousness
invites us to share what we’ve been given with our brothers and sisters, so
it’s natural that there will be gift-giving.
In the Catholic tradition, The Three Kings brought gifts to
Mary and Joseph and the baby. They were symbolic gifts that indicated the kings
knew that the life of Christ would be played out on the world stage and there
would be suffering. One of the gifts was myrrh for preparing the body, the
deceased body.
But The Three Kings represent the traditions of the various
religions. Kriyananda used to point out to us that The Three Kings coming to
the birth of Christ represented an interfaith satsang. This is
the mystical tradition of the gifts. We want to share the gifts that we’ve been
given with each other, because we are brothers and sisters of the Divine
Mother.
We are the brothers and sisters of the Christ Consciousness
in Christ Consciousness and that loving energy is to be held in Yogananda. In
our tradition [Kriya Yoga and Self-realization], those Three Kings are
represented by Babaji,
Lahiri, and Sri Yukteswar.
The meaning of the gifts becomes even more touching to [and
for] our Kriya Yoga path.
We see that as the Masters coming with gifts to celebrate the launching of
Christ’s mission to the world of true Christianity—Divine Love, world
brotherhood, the unity of all religions, sharing, giving, and the affirmation
of the soul,
in Christ Consciousness—being the underlying reality of the whole world.
The challenge for us, as true seekers of all paths, is to see
that behind and throughout all the traditions, all true religions, and paths is
the one realization of God’s Omnipresence.
The goal for us is to share the whole world—all the gifts,
both material and emotional, and spiritual—with each other, so that we can move
forward towards the realization that we are all part of the Christ
Consciousness, the Mystical Body of Christ, as it’s referred to; we’re all part
of that body. We are all part of all that is.
The gifts definitely move us in that spirit. It’s wonderful
that the tradition of gifts persists. It’s unfortunate that the materialism of
the modern world makes that a major part of Christmas. The business people and
corporations see Christmas as a shopping holiday, which to the spiritual world
is…You take what you’re given. Okay, we can tolerate that because it is
the giving
of gifts. It’s not selfish, but the buying…there’s still a little too much
materialism.
A little more spirituality would probably benefit all of us.
That was a major component of Yogananda’s celebration of Christmas and, of
course, Kriyananda and Ananda, as the saying goes, put the Christ back in
Christmas, and put the Christ Consciousness back in Christmas…and just push
with all of the other churches, sanghas, and all the religious traditions to
celebrate the true meaning of Christmas – the giving of gifts, especially
Divine Love, world brotherhood, peace, joy, and kindness, which I think we need
more of.

Love Without Boundaries
The light in children’s eyes when they see their gifts under
the tree on Christmas morning can only be described as joy. But for those who
are less fortunate, Christmas can be a very sad time. That being said, many
people choose not to give gifts at all at Christmas or birthday time because
their faith demands that all glory must go to God. Who is God, then, who demands that humans be
deprived of gifts, small pleasures or parties because he is ruler of the human
kingdom, as some Christian religions decree? Christians also claim that all
humans are sinners but have been saved through the sacrifice of Jesus dying on
the cross. Therefore, God will grant you into the kingdom of heaven, if you
repent your sins and pledge your allegiance to Christ and a life of humility
and sacrifice. Whatever religion people align to, there is always a mandate of
sacrifice, of believers being made to follow religious doctrine that prohibits
many things that are within law in the natural world. So many limits,
boundaries and rules all in the name of religion to bring the believer to
immortality must be very hard work, particularly for children who are born into
a certain faith and have no choice in the matter.
The God I know is the Creator, the Source of All That Is, who
demands nothing but to love yourself, be the best you can be and to accept
other people for who they are. His/Her
love is unconditional, so there is never any expectation for people to
sacrifice their energy to be loved, to be abundant or to live a comfortable and
successful life. All human beings have free will, meaning that the decisions
they make are responsible for the course their life takes. God the Creator,
cannot intervene on decisions people make, despite knowing that it will not be
the best course of action in the long run. All lessons learned here on Earth
lead to spiritual growth and the development of mastery. Spiritual Law decrees
that the Universe holds abundance for all, should they believe it. No one on
Earth holds any less worth than another, and all human constructs of status,
wealth and power hold any sway within Universal Law, unless the Law of Karma or
other laws are activated through actions taken against another person’s free
will. In the energy of Oneness with the Creator, all is equal and everything
just is: there is no separation.
It is said that Jesus came to save the world. How can it be
that one man is a saviour for the world, when in truth the human world already
has the tool to save itself? That tool is love, which is all there ever has
been, before the plethora of human emotions that can become confusing and even
toxic within society and human relationships. If every person on Earth could
see themselves and each other as equal, with love and without judgement, the
Earth would be a much more peaceful place.
Within the diversity of the human race, many similarities
exist; all human need to feel loved, worthy and have a sense of belonging. If
they are made to feel lesser, unloved, unwanted and disconnected from their
family or the wider world, problems will occur. There are many ways people find
connection, and many places of worship provide that. So do sporting clubs,
volunteer organisations, charity organisations and even work places. However
you find your connection and place of belonging, no matter how lost you have
been, please remember that you are always loved by God, no matter your colour,
creed, race, religion, sexual persuasion or your troubled past. Find the love
within yourself to learn from your mistakes and to put the knowledge to use to
help others find their way too. The energy of Oneness has no boundaries, so
allow yourself to shine.

Christmas is a time for wishing,
for that perfect gift,
For the latest and the greatest that will make your parents
skint.
For wishing for things you’ll never have, even if you want

For hoping against every hope that Santa may just bring them.

For wind up parties, barbeques
and family bun-fights
For many it is the time to pray for love and peace,
To worship baby Jesus in the hope all war will cease.

Know Who You Are Talking To!
The higher planes, that is
beyond life on Earth, are complex and of many dimensions. There are beings that
are of a very high and loving vibration, but there are many more who have left
the Earthly plane and whose vibrations are still extremely angry and dark. It
is these energies I wish to speak of now.
When a human dies his/her
spirit, carried by their soul, leaves his/her body and enters the light of the
Creator. If his/her soul is willing they will pass beyond the veil and enter
into the heavenly realms. The place where spirits reside is called the Fourth
Plane. If there is something holding the spirit back they may choose not to
pass over for a time, preferring to stay where they died in order to perhaps
help their loved ones or to resolve an issue they left behind on Earth. If this
happens they are caught between the Third and Fourth planes and are called
ghosts. Their energy is higher than that of a human in physical form but much
lower than that of a fully passed-over spirit. Some spirits remain as ghosts
for hundreds of years, stuck in the energy in which they died. Others pass on
more quickly, often with the help of humans who recognise their need to be
shown the light.
The Fourth Plane is a place of
learning. It has many levels and degrees of vibrations that are far too
complicated to describe. However, the basic ‘rule of thumb’ is that the
vibration of the person who died, that is, the way they lived their life and their
general demeanour, whether they learnt the lessons they had chosen through
their lifetime and the manner in which they died will greatly determine where
in the Fourth Plane their energy will go and how much healing and subsequent
learning they will need while they are there.
The Fourth Plane is generally
the place people access when they are seeking answers from spirit. It is
certainly the place to look to speak to your passed-over loved ones and those
whose lives you shared or that you know of through stories or the media. Spirits
residing in the Fourth Plane come across as they were in life with the same
personality and demeanour. Some may be more reflective and able to see the
mistakes of the past while others will demonstrate a range of emotions such as
resentful, gregarious, unrepentant, vicious, nasty, loving and passive… the
list is large. If you know who you wish to contact then you will be fairly
unsurprised at the response. However, if you contact the spirit world at random
and with no specific person in mind, you could potentially unlock a Pandora’s
box of massive proportions and find yourself under attack.
The Fourth Plane does not
contain demonic energies; they belong to the Lower Fifth Plane, and then again
only if you choose to accept that reality. However, many facets of the spirit
world contain energies who had no respect for life when they lived as humans
and have sunk to the lowest depths of human emotions in the afterlife.
Questions you ask of spirits without knowing with whom you are talking can
result in the answers being extremely unreliable. It can also cause lower
entities to attach to your aura and to begin causing havoc to you and to your
environment. Therefore, using any spiritual tool such as a ouija board, tarot
cards or pendulum without being specific in to whom you are addressing can be
extremely dangerous. Many people who have used such tools in a haphazard manner
have found themselves suddenly faced with haunting or even possession. It is
not recommended!
Many people are choosing this
time to leave the planet and to pass over into the spirit realm. It has left
grieving families desperate to contact their loved-ones to find out why they
left so suddenly and if they are alright. Attempting this contact without a
medium when you have no knowledge of how to do it is highly dangerous. At this
time of ascension it is important to realise that many people are unable to
cope with the heightened energy and are choosing to leave. Also, at a time when
the Astral Plane has been emptied of spirits and entities, a stirring up of the
lower dimensions of the Fourth Plane will only release more negative and
tumultuous energy into an already muddled and confused Collective
Consciousness.
This may seem like an unusual
topic to be addressing but, with the mass awakening of humans to their
spiritual purpose comes a time when an unprecedented number of people are
becoming increasingly curious to explore the psychic and spiritual domains. This
is as it should be, but I encourage all beginners to seek out those
professionals whose energies are high and whose purpose it is to assist them to
contact the ethereal kingdom safely.

For the most part, Black Bear symbolism
is about introspection. In particular, the Bear meaning is letting you know
that it is time to go inward and explore the notion of your very existence.
Therefore, with this spirit animal, you must delve deep into your heart to find

integrity to the physical world. It is your mission to generate harmony in the
world and the ecology of this planet.
When you have a Bear dream, it
could signify that it is time to explore your thoughts. Thinking the same thing
over and over may be creating an undesired reality. Perhaps you have allowed
others to do your thinking for you! Step back and reassess things. Go inward
and find your precise feeling on this matter and follow what you know is right
in your heart.
Alternatively, if this mammal
is cinnamon in colour, it represents the need for you to return to those things
that give you comfort in life. Being a martyr has its values, but in this case,
the cost to yourself is more than you should carry.
